Overview

Systems administration skills for managing Solaris systems. Get the most from high-end servers and workstations by keeping them organized, well-managed and always available. The skills learned here form the basic tool belt of Solaris administrators, and the labs and exercises from this class help students apply these tools to solve typical problems.


Prerequisites
SUN-100 or equivalent Solaris experience.


Certification
This course, combined with SUN-100, prepares students for exam 310-011, Certified System Administrator for Solaris 8, Part I.

  • Create and remove users.
  • Set and clear passwords.
  • Manage network names and addresses.
  • Manage printers and access.
  • Configure systems for initial software installation.
  • List, add or remove software packages and patches.
  • Manage disks and partitions
  • Create file systems on disk partitions and make them available to users.
  • Create and restore file system backups.
  • Boot systems, power-off, shutdown to single-user or hardware maintenance mode.
  • Make sure programs start and shutdown properly with the system.
